KABUL: U.S. President Donald Trump and Sheik Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, met aboard the White House’s Air Force One.

Al Jazeera reported that on Saturday night, when Trump’s plane stopped in Qatar for refueling during his journey to Malaysia.

In the meeting, President Trump expressed gratitude for Qatar’s efforts to achieve a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and the Israeli regime while attacks on Gaza continue.

Sitting beside the Emir of Qatar, he stated, “We have done a lot together, especially over the past year. What we have accomplished is incredible—bringing peace to the Middle East—and they played a very big role in that, so I just want to thank you.”

This meeting comes as senior U.S. officials, including the Vice President, Special Representative, and Senior Advisor to the President, visited Tel Aviv last week to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and the Israeli regime.

The Emir of Qatar later posted on X about his meeting with Trump, describing it as a good opportunity to discuss peace plans in the Middle East, pursue efforts to solidify the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, and explore avenues for strategic cooperation between the two friendly countries.

It remains to be seen what implications this meeting will have for the next stages of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
