Editing Trump’s speech leads to the resignations of BBC bosses

KABUL: Amid growing pressure on the BBC regarding shortcomings in its coverage of the Israel-Gaza conflict and the editing of one of Donald Trump’s speeches, the Director-General and the Head of News of the global network have resigned.
Reuters reported early today, that the U.S. President welcomed the resignations, calling the officials “very dishonest.” Trump stated that the BBC’s “Panorama” program edited and published one of his speeches in a way that made it appear as though he was encouraging people to attack the Capitol in 2021.
However, Tim Davie, the Director-General of the BBC, defended the network’s approach as a “gold standard” worldwide, acknowledging that there have been mistakes in some instances.
Deborah Turness, the Head of News at the BBC, also announced her resignation in an email to staff, stating, “I want to make it absolutely clear that recent allegations of institutional bias at the BBC are incorrect.”
The accusations against the BBC were highlighted by the Daily Telegraph after a report was leaked by a former advisor to the network.
The BBC is recognized as one of the leading and most reputable media organizations globally, particularly in the UK.
