KABUL: The leader of the global Catholic Church, Pope Leo, has announced that the only solution to the years of conflict and disputes between Israelis and Palestinians is the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
During a flight from Turkey to Lebanon, he emphasized in a conversation with journalists that the Vatican has supported the creation of a Palestinian state for years.
He stated, “It is well known that Israel currently does not accept this solution, but in our view, it is the only path forward. We maintain friendly relations with Israel and wish to be a voice for dialogue as a mediator; a voice that can help both sides reach a just resolution.”
The Pope made the remarks amid renewed opposition from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the establishment of a Palestinian state.
