German citizens must prepare for voluntary military service

KABUL: According to a new law recently passed in the Bundestag (parliament) of Germany, voluntary military service will begin for citizens in the country.

According to Sky News on Friday night, under the newly adopted law, if the number of volunteers for military service does not meet the required threshold, the German government can make military service mandatory for its citizens after a parliamentary vote.

As per the new legislators’ decision, all individuals born after 2008 in Germany will receive a questionnaire to express their willingness to serve in the military.

If the number of volunteers exceeds the required capacity, a lottery will be conducted among those volunteers for military enlistment.

The law specifies that responding to this questionnaire will be mandatory for men.

This newly enacted law aims to establish new defense objectives for the German Federal Army.

According to military officials, the number of active troops in Germany is expected to increase from the current 183,000 to 260,000, with reserves rising to 200,000.
