Australia to ban social media use for under-16s starting tomorrow

KABUL: Australia has announced that starting tomorrow, boys and girls under the age of 16 will be prohibited from using social media platforms such as TikTok and Facebook.

The new law aims to protect young people from the “endless online scrolling” and the psychological pressures of the virtual world.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated in a video message that social media platforms will be required to implement effective mechanisms for age verification and remove users under 16; failure to do so will result in heavy fines.

Albanese encouraged young people to spend less time on their phones during the summer holidays and more time with family, friends, and engaging in personal activities. He added, “Start a new sport or read that book you’ve been putting off for a long time.”
