KABUL: Following the storm known as “Byron,” heavy rainfall and flooding in the Gaza Strip have resulted in the deaths of at least 14 individuals, with several others injured.
According to Al Jazeera on Friday night, the Ministry of Interior and National Security in Gaza stated that five individuals died overnight in the “Bair al-Najah” area, two in the “Rimal” neighborhood, one in the “Shati” refugee camp, two infants in the “Mawasi” area, a nine-year-old child in western Gaza, and an eight-month-old infant in Khan Yunis due to extreme cold.
According to the ministry, the main reasons for these fatalities include flooding of the tents of war refugees, the collapse of damaged buildings from previous attacks, and severe cold conditions.
Images released from the residential areas of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip show water infiltrating their tents. Reports indicate that the storm “Byron” has transformed the tents of war refugees in Gaza into traps of death.
Moreover, Gaza officials have warned that further rains and flooding pose a continuing threat to the lives of displaced persons.
