KABUL: Iranian media reports that the country’s representative to the United Nations has criticized the international community for failing to fulfill its fundamental commitments to support millions of Afghan refugees.
The reports cite Iran’s permanent envoy, Amir Saeed Iravani, stating that international financial assistance for Afghan refugees has decreased by up to 60% for the year 2026.
Iravani emphasized that Iran cannot bear the heavy burden of approximately six million Afghan refugees alone, and that this situation contradicts the principles of equitable responsibility among the international community.
The Iranian representative warned that if the international community does not properly fulfill its share of responsibility, the refugee crisis will likely escalate further and put a serious strain on host countries.
