KABUL: Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, has stated that Washington does not consider the Venezuelan government led by Nicolás Maduro to be “legitimate.”
Anadolu Agency reported that Rubio made the remarks during a recent press conference on Friday night, emphasizing that the current situation in Venezuela is “intolerable” for the United States, which seeks to change it.
He added, “The current situation, where they work and collaborate with terrorist organizations against U.S. national interests, involves not just collaboration but partnerships in activities that threaten U.S. national interests.”
Regarding Russia’s role in Venezuela, the senior U.S. diplomat noted that Washington is not concerned about escalating tensions with Moscow concerning Caracas, as the Kremlin is sufficiently preoccupied with Ukraine.
Rubio’s comments come as the U.S. has been reinforcing its presence in the Caribbean, surrounding Venezuela with thousands of troops, ships, and warplanes in recent weeks.
Recently, Russia and China have expressed solidarity and full support for the Venezuelan government.
