KABUL: Saudi Arabia conducted an airstrike on the port of Mukalla in Yemen this morning.
The Associated Press reported that the strike targeted a shipment of weapons intended for the Southern Transitional Council forces at the port.
A statement from Saudi Arabia noted, “Two ships had entered Mukalla via the Port of Fujairah and unloaded weapons and armored vehicles, which were targeted in a ‘limited and controlled operation’ by the air coalition.”
The report adds that there has been no official response from the United Arab Emirates regarding this attack, and no information has been provided about the damage.
Mukalla is a port in the Hadhramaut province of Yemen that has recently come under the control of the Southern Transitional Council, and this strike is seen as indicative of escalating political and military tensions in the region.
