KABUL: The British Ministry of Defense has confirmed that its fighter jets, in a joint airstrike with French aircraft, targeted and bombed an ISIS underground facility in parts of Syria.
On Saturday night, January 2, the ministry issued an official statement confirming this joint operation.
According to the statement, the strike, carried out by the Royal Air Force’s Typhoon jets and French aircraft, targeted and destroyed an ISIS facility in the “Palmyra” mountains of Syria.
The British Ministry of Defense indicated that the facility was located away from populated areas and was likely used for storing weapons and explosives by the extremist group.
The ministry noted that while assessments regarding the outcome of the operation are ongoing, initial evaluations suggest the mission was successful.
In the statement, British Defense Minister Ben Wallace emphasized: “This action demonstrates Britain’s leadership and our determination to stand alongside our allies to prevent any resurgence of ISIS and their dangerous and violent ideology in the Middle East.”
It is worth mentioning that before this, U.S. forces had also initiated operations against ISIS in coordination with Syrian military units in the country.
