KABUL: China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has reacted to recent developments in Iran, stating that Beijing has always opposed interference in the internal affairs of countries, as well as threats and the use of force in international relations.
Liu Jian, spokesperson for the Ministry, in a statement on Wednesday, expressed hope that Iran can maintain its stability and affirmed support for Tehran’s efforts in this regard.
Beijing has expressed the desire for all parties in Iran to act in a way that contributes to peace and stability in the Middle East.
The statement also mentioned, “China’s position on tariffs is very clear. There are no winners in tariff wars. China will firmly protect its legitimate rights and interests.”
This response seems to be a reaction to a recent threat from U.S. President Donald Trump, who warned that countries trading with Iran would face a 25% tariff on trade with the U.S. China is the largest buyer of Iranian oil.
China’s recent stance on developments in Iran comes at a time when Trump has indicated that the U.S. may take military action against Tehran within 24 hours due to the killings of Iranian protesters.
