KABUL: Officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, in reaction to a joint report from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Organization for Migration, stated that the Pakistani government must be compelled to respect the rights of Afghan migrants in accordance with international principles.
Mullah Hamdullah Fitrat, the deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate, in an audio-tape said today that the problems faced by Afghan migrants in Pakistan are worsening daily, with reports of “arrests, harassment, and mistreatment” by the authorities of that country.
“The United Nations and other organizations advocating for migrant rights to pay attention to and address the situation of Afghan migrants in Pakistan,” he said, adding that the Pakistani government should halt the detention and abuse of Afghan migrants residing in the country.
Two days ago, the UNHCR and IOM reported that the detention of Afghan migrants by Pakistani police increased by 18% in 2026, and in the last three months of 2025, 130,000 of them were detained in Pakistan.
