KABUL: Japan’s Ambassador to Kabul, Kenichi Masamoto, in a meeting with the Minister of Refugees and Repatriations, Mawlavi Abdul Kabir, announced that his country has provided $550 million in aid to Afghanistan over the past four years.
According to a statement from the ministry, the Japanese ambassador also stated that Tokyo has approved $19.5 million in new assistance, which will be allocated to various sectors, including migration.
Masamoto emphasized that Japan has supported Afghanistan in humanitarian efforts, refugee assistance, alternative livelihoods, healthcare, water supply, and other areas, pledging that Tokyo will continue collaborative efforts with Afghanistan.
Additionally, Minister Kabir expressed gratitude for Japan’s support, noting that Afghanistan faces challenges due to climate change and foreign occupations. He called on the international community to assist both in humanitarian efforts and developmental projects.
Kabir highlighted that millions of Afghans have returned to the country during the tenure of the Islamic Emirate and emphasized the need for sustained assistance.
