Araghchi confirms over 3,000 killed in recent protests in Iran

KABUL: Dr. Sayed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, has recently stated that 3,117 individuals have lost their lives as a result of nearly three weeks of protests in the country.

Araghchi made the remarks on Friday night, by sharing a post from the U.S. Vice President regarding the handling of protesters in Iran on X.

He also noted that among those killed in the protests, 2,427 were civilians and security forces, while 690 others were categorized as “terrorists.”

The Foreign Minister listed the damages resulting from the protests, including: “305 ambulances and buses, 24 fuel pumps, 700 shops of raw materials, 300 private homes, 750 banks, 414 government buildings, 749 police stations and posts, 120 Basij centers, 200 schools, 350 mosques, 15 libraries, 2 Armenian churches, 253 bus stations, 600 ATMs, and 800 private vehicles.”

The nearly 20-day protests in Iran have been labeled as riots by the government, which has referred to the instigators as “terrorists and rioters,” and have reportedly been supported publicly by the U.S. and the Israeli regime.

Currently, the events appear to have ended, with hundreds of protesters arrested and imprisoned by Iranian security forces.
