WASHINGTON: U.S. President Donald Trump has signed a new law aimed at supporting victims of human trafficking, which will facilitate the legal annulment of previous criminal records for victims.
According to information from the White House, this law, known as the “Trafficking Survivors Relief Act,” provides special provisions for individuals who have been victims of human trafficking and have committed illegal acts as a result of coercion, threats, or force.
Under this law, victims can submit applications to the relevant courts and request a judge to annul certain criminal convictions and expunge records of their arrests.
The White House stated that the primary purpose of this law is to ensure that victims are not penalized for actions taken under duress, allowing them to reintegrate into society without obstacles in employment, education, and social life.
