KABUL: Russian state media, citing Afghan diplomats in the country, have reported that Kabul is interested in purchasing oil and gas from Moscow.
Mawlavi Gul Hassan Hassan, Afghanistan’s ambassador to Russia, in an interview with TASS news agency on Monday night, said that efforts are underway to organize an exhibition of Afghan-produced goods in Russia, which will undoubtedly play a crucial role in increasing trade between Kabul and Moscow.
He further mentioned that in exchange for oil and gas, Afghanistan could export “fresh and dried fruits, vegetables, medicinal plants, carpets, and mineral resources” to Russia.
Hassan added that trade and economic relations between the two countries are developing. If some issues, particularly banking restrictions, are resolved, Afghanistan will be able to import oil, gas, pharmaceuticals, industrial goods, grains, vegetable oils, and other products from Russia.
According to Ambassador Hassan, the implementation of these export and import activities could significantly increase the volume of trade between Afghanistan and Russia.
Previously, TASS reported that direct flights between Kabul and Moscow are also set to increase.
