U.S. claims Iranian drone shot down; Tehran confirms contact lost

KABUL: Following reports regarding the downing of an Iranian drone by the U.S. aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln in the Middle East, Iranian media have confirmed the loss of communication with the drone.

Tasnim News Agency, a state media outlet, reported on Tuesday night, citing credible sources that contact with the “Shahed 129” unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) was lost after successfully transmitting visual data to the information collection center.

The source indicated that the circumstances surrounding the communication breakdown are being investigated by Iranian security agencies.

“The drone, Shahed 129, was reportedly on its regular and lawful mission in international waters for reconnaissance, monitoring, and imaging, which is considered a routine and legal activity,” said the report adding that the drone was photographing over the U.S. aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln while situated in Middle Eastern waters.

Previously, Reuters had reported, that an Iranian drone was downed near the U.S. aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln, which is currently deployed in the region.
