KABUL: The Russian Foreign Ministry has announced that Moscow and Muscat agree on the continuation of talks between Washington and Tehran regarding Iran’s nuclear program.
According to the Russian state news agency TASS on Sunday evening, Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, discussed this consensus during a phone call with his Omani counterpart, Badr al-Busaidi.
“The two sides exchanged views on the situation surrounding Iran within the framework of the recent indirect talks between Iranian and American representatives, which were mediated by Oman in Muscat,” said the statement.
The statement emphasized that both parties agreed on the necessity of continuing negotiations between Iran and the U.S. to find “mutually acceptable agreements” that could mitigate the risks of military confrontations and ensure stability in the region.
Moscow praised Muscat’s efforts in facilitating the dialogue between Iran and the U.S.
This comes as the first talks between Iranian and American delegations were held three days ago (Friday) in Muscat, the capital of Oman.
The two sides have agreed to continue these discussions in the upcoming week.
