KABUL: Afghanistan’s National Procurement Commission has approved 17 development projects worth 1 billion Afghanis (some 14 million U.S. dollars), officials said.

The decision was made during a meeting, which was chaired by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs of the Islamic Emirate.

According to a statement from the deputy PM office, the approved projects include the construction of a university dormitory in Panjshir province, a medical faculty building in Badakhshan province, and the completion of key road infrastructure linking Kunar and Nuristan provinces.

Other projects included the construction of public hospitals in districts of Ghazni, Faryab, and Nangarhar provinces, as well as electricity distribution initiatives across several regions.

A total of 42 projects were reviewed in the meeting. Of those, 17 were approved, 14 were amended, and several others were referred for further negotiations or re-evaluation.

Officials said the projects will be funded by the Afghan government and were approved following technical assessments to ensure transparency and quality.
