KABUL: The country’s Minister of Economy, Qari Din Mohammad Hanif, says nearly 27,000 Afghan families have been displaced following recent airstrikes and artillery attacks by Pakistani military forces.
Speaking on Thursday at an emergency aid coordination meeting with international organizations and UN agencies in Kabul, he detailed the scale of the displacement across several provinces, according to Radio Omid correspondent.
He said the largest number of displaced families was recorded in Kunar province, with 10,395 families affected, followed by 7,000 in Paktia and 3,830 in Khost. Other affected areas include Nuristan 688 families, Nangarhar 593, Laghman 71, Paktika 1,500, Zabul 822, and Kandahar 895.
Hanif condemned the attacks as a “heinous act” and described them as an “organized crime,” calling for urgent humanitarian assistance for those affected. He asked international organizations to provide essential aid, including shelter, tents, food supplies, and cash assistance.
The minister also stressed the need to rebuild the Omarin refugee camp in Torkham to accommodate displaced families.
Afghan authorities say relief efforts for internally displaced people have already begun, led by the national disaster management agency and the Afghan Red Crescent Society.
