WHO sends over 78 tons of medical aid to Afghanistan

KABUL: The World Health Organization (WHO) has delivered more than 78.5 tons of ‘essential medical supplies’ to Afghanistan, the agency said.

In a statement posted on X, WHO’s Afghanistan office said a 78.5-ton shipment was transported from Dubai, including measles treatment kits, pneumonia medicines, nutritional supplies for severely malnourished children, surgical equipment, and other critical items.

The agency said: “The supplies are expected to support more than 419,000 people and enable approximately 13,600 life-saving medical procedures nationwide.”

WHO also thanked the United Arab Emirates for facilitating the shipment, as well as its donors for continuing to support life-saving services in Afghanistan.

The delivery comes after WHO operations based in Dubai were disrupted following the outbreak of conflicts between the United States and Israel, and their attacks on Iran.
