UNICEF backs Afghanistan’s health sector self-sufficiency policies

KABUL: Tajudeen Oyewale, head of UNICEF in Afghanistan, says the agency supports government policies aimed at achieving self-sufficiency in the country’s health sector.

Speaking at the opening of a four-day capacity-building workshop for Ministry of Public Health staff in Kabul on Sunday, Oyewale said UNICEF will continue to stand alongside the Afghan government and coordinate with other donor organizations to mobilize support for the health sector.

He also highlighted ongoing joint efforts with Afghan authorities to eradicate Polio, noting that challenges remain but efforts are continuing to overcome them.

Oyewale stressed the need to improve vaccine delivery systems for mothers and children, emphasizing that more must be done to save lives.

His remarks come as Afghan health officials continue to promote policies focused on strengthening and making the country’s healthcare system more self-reliant.
