KABUL: The country’s Ministry of Public Works says nearly 230,000 tons of export and import goods were transported via railways across the country over the past week.
Spokesperson of the Ministry Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas said on Wednesday that a total of 229,536 tons of goods were moved through key rail ports between May 4 and May 10, including Hairatan, Aqina, Torghundi, and the Khaf–Herat railway line.
According to the statement, 158,133 tons via Hairatan, 21,797 tons via Aqina, 19,195 tons via Torghundi, and 30,411 tons via Khaf–Herat have been transported.
Both fuel and non-fuel goods were included in the shipments, said the statement adding that a small portion, around 246 tons consisted of exports, primarily pomegranate juice.
The ministry says efforts are ongoing to expand rail transport capacity and improve logistics infrastructure across Afghanistan.
