Iran-funded highway project in Farah approaches final stage

KABUL: Alireza Bigdeli, Iran’s ambassador to Afghanistan, says the second section of the “Mil-78 Abu Nasr Farahi” highway which connects Afghanistan with Iran will be completed and opened within the next two months.

According to a statement from Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Works, he made the remarks during a meeting with Mullah Mohammad Isa Sani, where the two sides discussed economic ties and infrastructure development between Afghanistan and Iran.

The ambassador said the second phase of the road, which is 53 kilometers, is being financed by Iran. So far, 42 kilometers have been completed, with construction ongoing on the remaining 11 kilometers.

He added that the first phase of the road, measuring 64 kilometers, was previously completed with Iranian support, and funding has now been allocated for repairs to damaged sections.
