KABUL: Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, has called on all parties to respond positively to mediation efforts aimed at securing a ceasefire between the United States and Iran.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar said in a statement released Saturday night that Al Thani made the remarks during talks with Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
According to the statement, Qatar’s foreign minister stressed the importance of mediation efforts to reach a lasting agreement that would prevent renewed escalation in the region.
“The discussions focused on regional developments, particularly efforts to establish a ceasefire between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as ongoing diplomatic initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and enhancing regional security and stability,” the statement said.
The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Qatar also discussed bilateral cooperation and ways to further strengthen ties between Riyadh and Doha.
Al Thani’s call for positive engagement with mediation efforts comes shortly after his official visit to Washington.
Meanwhile, Marco Rubio wrote on X early Sunday that his meeting with the Qatari prime minister included discussions on U.S. defense cooperation with Qatar, describing the partnership between Doha and Washington as important for “countering threats and promoting stability in the Middle East.”
