Putin says Ukraine war nearing an end

KABUL: Vladimir Putin has said he believes the ongoing war with Ukraine is nearing its end.

Speaking to reporters, the Russian president expressed readiness for talks on new security arrangements in Europe and said he would prefer former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder to take part in any potential negotiations.

According to Reuters, Putin made the remarks only hours after pledging victory in Ukraine during Russia’s Victory Day celebrations in Moscow.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin said peace negotiations with Ukraine, mediated by the administration of Donald Trump, have stalled.

Putin again stressed that Russia would continue fighting until its stated military objectives are achieved.

The remarks come as a temporary ceasefire between the two sides is currently in effect to facilitate a prisoner exchange.
