KABUL: Donald Trump has said the ceasefire between Iran and the United States is on the verge of collapse and has only a “one percent chance” of surviving.
According to CNN, Trump made the remarks Monday night while speaking to reporters at the White House.
The U.S. president reportedly described Iran’s latest response to Washington’s peace proposal as “very weak and worthless,” saying it had reduced hopes for reaching an agreement.
Trump stated that after Iran rejected the peace proposal, the ceasefire was now “on life support.”
The report added that ongoing clashes in the Strait of Hormuz, reciprocal attacks, and disputes over Iran’s nuclear program have contributed to the fragile state of the ceasefire.
Trump’s remarks came shortly after Washington received Tehran’s formal response to the U.S. peace proposal a response that Iranian officials describe as a defense of the Iranian people’s legitimate rights, but which Trump has called “unacceptable.”
