China and Tajikistan sign treaty on ‘permanent good-neighborliness, friendship and cooperation’

KABUL: Chinese President Xi Jinping and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon have signed a treaty on “permanent good-neighborliness, friendship and cooperation” during Rahmon’s visit to Beijing.

China Daily, a Chinese state-run newspaper, reported on Wednesday that the agreement was signed during the Tajik president’s official trip to China.

According to the report, Xi said the signing of the treaty fully reflects the high level of mutual political trust between Beijing and Dushanbe and provides a strong guarantee for lasting friendship between future generations.

Xi also emphasized the need to strengthen the positive momentum of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, explore new areas of collaboration, and simultaneously increase both the volume and quality of trade and investment.

Rahmon praised the signing of the treaty, describing it as the beginning of a new historic phase in relations between Tajikistan and China that opens fresh prospects for long-term cooperation.

The Tajik president began a four-day visit to China earlier this week on Monday.
