KABUL: Iranian Foreign Minister, Dr. Sayed Abbas Araghchi, in a post on X on Wednesday night accused Kuwait of making an “open attempt to create division” following the arrest of four Iranian nationals after Kuwaiti forces intercepted their boat in the Persian Gulf.
Kuwait’s state news agency KUNA, citing the country’s Interior Ministry, reported Tuesday night that Kuwaiti authorities had detained four members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) who were allegedly attempting to enter the country by sea.
However, the Iranian foreign minister claimed that Kuwaiti forces had “illegally attacked” an Iranian boat and detained four Iranian citizens in the Persian Gulf.
“This illegal action took place near an island used by the United States to launch attacks against Iran,” Araghchi wrote.
The Iranian foreign minister called for the immediate release of the detainees and warned that Tehran has the right to respond.
Kuwait is one of the Gulf states that shares maritime borders with Iran.
