KABUL: U.S. President Donald Trump said during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping that relations between the two countries would have an “extraordinary” future, expressing optimism about closer cooperation between Washington and Beijing.
Trump praised Xi’s leadership, describing the Chinese president as a “great leader.”
“We have great respect for China,” Trump said, adding that Washington highly values the achievements made under Xi Jinping’s leadership.
The remarks came as Trump arrived in Beijing for a three-day official visit.
According to reports, the U.S. president is expected to discuss key issues with his Chinese counterpart, including Iran, trade, and Taiwan.
