KABUL: Iran’s mission to the United Nations says the United States is attempting to use supporters of a “political and one-sided” draft resolution to create what it described as a “false image of broad international support” for Washington’s actions.
In a statement issued early Saturday, the Iranian mission said the efforts were aimed at paving the way for “further military adventurism” in the region.
The mission warned that if the United States initiates any new escalation, Washington and all countries backing it would bear international responsibility for the consequences.
“No political justification or diplomatic cover can absolve them of responsibility for facilitating, assisting, and legitimizing U.S. aggression,” the statement said.
The remarks appeared to refer to a draft resolution reportedly being prepared by the United States and five allied Middle Eastern countries for submission to the United Nations Security Council.
If approved, the resolution would authorize military efforts aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
A similar resolution submitted earlier this year by the United States and Bahrain to the UN Security Council on April 7, 2025, was vetoed by China and Russia.
