KABUL: Shaikh Nada Mohammad Nadeem, in a meeting with Alexey Overchuk, held talks on strengthening relations between Afghanistan and Russia, according to a statement from the Ministry of Higher Education.
The meeting was attended by Nooruddin Azizi, Minister of Industry and Commerce, and took place on the sidelines of the 11th “Russia–Islamic World” forum held in Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan.
According to the statement, Azizi warned that certain groups are attempting to undermine relations between Kabul and Moscow, stressing that such efforts should be taken seriously and prevented.
Meanwhile, Minister Nadeem emphasized the importance of long-term cooperation between the two sides and said Afghanistan and Russia should work toward direct trade relations without intermediaries.
For his part, Overchuk expressed hope that economic and trade relations between Kabul and Moscow would further expand, noting that such meetings could have a positive impact on bilateral cooperation.
Both sides reportedly agreed on strengthening the joint economic and trade commission and continuing discussions on related issues.
The Afghan delegation, led by the Minister of Higher Education, has been in Tatarstan for nearly a week to participate in the forum and hold bilateral meetings
