KABUL: Russian forces launched massive airstrikes on Ukraine over the past week, firing 3,170 drones, 1,300 guided aerial bombs, and 74 missiles, including ballistic missiles, Ukrainian officials said on Sunday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a post on X that residential buildings and civilian infrastructure were among the targets struck during the attacks.
According to Zelenskyy, at least 52 people were killed and 346 others injured, including 22 children, as a result of the Russian strikes across Ukraine.
“Our people need greater protection, and every measure that strengthens Ukraine’s air defense ultimately helps save lives,” he said.
The attacks appear to have taken place over the past four days, as Moscow and Kyiv had observed a temporary ceasefire from May 9 to May 12 to mark Russia’s Victory Day commemorations marking the defeat of Nazi Germany.
The latest escalation comes as Russian authorities also reported drone attacks on Moscow over the past 24 hours that left 12 people injured.
