KABUL: Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, met with the head of Uzbekistan Railways to discuss a range of bilateral transport and infrastructure issues.
According to a statement from the Deputy PM office, Uzbek officials expressed plans to construct a new 1.5-kilometer railway line at Naibabad Station, along with several warehouses for loading and unloading goods alongside the track.
Baradar welcomed the initiative and instructed officials from Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Works to coordinate technical and construction work jointly with the Uzbek side.
According to the statement, the new railway line and storage facilities are expected to increase the capacity of Hairatan Port and improve trade-related services and logistics for merchants.
