KABUL: Shehbaz Sharif, Pakistan’s Prime Minister assured Masoud Pezeshkian during a telephone conversation that Pakistan would stand alongside Iran.
He wrote in a post on X on Wednesday evening that the Iranian president had praised Pakistan’s “sincere efforts for peace in the region.”
The Pakistani Prime Minister added that Pakistan would always support Iran as “a sincere friend and close neighbor.”
According to the Islamic Republic News Agency, both sides discussed cooperation in economic, trade and customs sectors and emphasized continuing consultations in support of regional peace and stability.
Meanwhile, some political analysts and current Iranian officials have questioned Pakistan’s suitability as a mediator in regional tensions.
