KABUL: Ahmed al-Sharaa, the Interim President of Syria has urged the United States to remove the remaining sanctions on Syria during a telephone conversation with Donald Trump.
According to reports, al-Sharaa said the complete lifting of sanctions is essential for Syria’s economic recovery, the expansion of commercial activities and the attraction of foreign investment.
He emphasized that Syria’s economy has entered a reconstruction phase after years of conflict and instability, adding that continued international economic restrictions pose obstacles to that process.
The discussions come as the United States has eased some sanctions imposed on Syria following the fall of the government of Bashar al-Assad, while several restrictions remain in place.
