U.S. Defense Secretary: Europe should learn from experiences of Asian allies

KABUL: Pete Hegseth, U.S. Defense Secretary has criticized some European members of NATO, saying Western Europe should learn from the approach and experience of Asian partners.
Speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Hegseth praised Asian countries for increasing defense spending and maintaining close coordination with the United States in response to growing challenges posed by China.
According to reports, he said Washington works closely with its partners when common interests are at stake and prefers practical cooperation over political disputes and pressure when differences arise.
In response, Western European officials stressed that NATO remains a strong and united military alliance.
The remarks come amid ongoing discussions between the United States and some of its European allies over defense spending and the sharing of security responsibilities.
