NEW DELHI: At least 21 people, including a number of foreign nationals, were killed and dozens more injured in a major fire that broke out in India’s capital, New Delhi, international media reported.
According to Al Jazeera, the blaze erupted inside a multi-story building located in a densely populated area, and more than 40 people were transported to hospitals for treatment.
The incident occurred in the Malviyanagar area, where the building’s lower floor housed a restaurant, while the upper floors were used as a hotel.
Local media reported that many of those killed were foreign nationals who had traveled to India for medical treatment.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and extended condolences to the families of the victims.
