KABUL: The United States and Iran have reportedly carried out new attacks against each other, further escalating tensions in the region.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said it conducted fresh strikes against targets in Iran following remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who stated that Tehran had taken “too long” to reach an agreement to end the conflict.
CENTCOM said the operations were carried out in “self-defense,” while U.S. military officials described them as a response to what they called Iran’s “unprovoked and continued aggression.”
Meanwhile, Iranian authorities acknowledged that attacks had struck the city of Bandar Abbas and several other locations across the country.
According to Iran’s Fars News Agency, Iranian forces launched retaliatory strikes targeting U.S. vessels near the Strait of Hormuz as well as American military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain.
The agency also reported that Iran had closed the Strait of Hormuz to all maritime traffic.
