EU welcomes U.S.-Iran agreement, calls for swift implementation

KABUL: President of the European Commission
Ursula von der Leyen has welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran, stressing that its full and rapid implementation must be a top priority for all parties involved.
In a post on X, she expressed hope that the agreement would lead to the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and restore freedom of navigation, calling it essential for regional stability and the global economy.
Von der Leyen said the deal could pave the way for broader regional discussions on peace and security, while also urging Iran to end its nuclear and ballistic missile programs as well as other destabilizing activities in the region.
She also raised concern over the situation in Lebanon, calling on all sides to respect its sovereignty and territorial integrity and to implement a genuine ceasefire.
The European Commission president further noted that reliance on energy routes has once again been used as a tool of pressure, emphasizing the need to diversify supply chains and develop alternative export corridors.
