KABUL: The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fired at least two missiles at commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Monday night, according to a report by Axios citing two U.S. officials.
The report said two commercial ships sustained significant damage in the attack, although no casualties have been reported.
Meanwhile, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said that early Tuesday, an oil tanker caught fire after being struck by an unidentified projectile east of the Lima area off the coast of Oman.
The incidents come amid heightened tensions in the region and renewed concerns over the security of one of the world’s busiest maritime shipping routes.
