KABUL: Australia’s The Guardian has reported that Iran is seeking to establish a permanent fee system for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz and has warned ships not to use the strategic waterway without Tehran’s authorization.
According to the report, the proposal comes as the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical maritime trade routes, through which a significant share of global energy supplies is transported.
International media have previously reported on the possibility of Iran imposing transit fees, but Iranian authorities have not officially confirmed any plan to introduce such charges.
