KABUL: U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that the previously announced ceasefire with Iran has effectively ended and announced the reimposition of maritime sanctions against Tehran.
Trump also said that vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz will be required to pay transit fees, a move that contrasts with Washington’s previous position, which had criticized such charges as inconsistent with international maritime law.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes, and any restrictions or transit fees imposed on vessels passing through the waterway could have significant implications for global trade and energy markets.
