Iran says countries using frozen assets risk shipping through Hormuz

KABUL: Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, has warned that Iran’s armed forces could prevent ships belonging to countries that support U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to use Iran’s frozen assets from transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

Zolfaghari made the remarks in response to Trump’s announced decision that compensation for damaged ships would be paid from Iran’s frozen assets.

Iran has repeatedly stated that it could take measures affecting maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz during periods of heightened regional tensions.
