KABUL: General Dan Caine, Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, has reportedly stressed in private discussions with senior advisers to the Trump administration that a way out should be found to end the ongoing war with Iran.
CNN, citing three sources familiar with the matter, reported that Caine is concerned that the military options under consideration for further escalating the war could have adverse consequences for the United States. He also reportedly believes that relying solely on air power may not achieve President Donald Trump’s stated objectives.
One source said: “Caine is looking for a way out.”
The senior U.S. military official’s position comes as concerns among other senior American military officials are also growing over the potential consequences and prolonged nature of the conflict as military action against Iran is expanded.
