KABUL: Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, Islamic Emirate’s Foreign Minister, stated that the country has resisted international military pressure in recent years and that political and economic pressure will not force Afghanistan to change its position.
Speaking at a ceremony marking Afghanistan’s Independence Day (Victory Day) at the Loya Jirga Hall in Kabul, Muttaqi said countries that previously applied military pressure on Afghanistan are now using political, economic and other forms of pressure following the withdrawal of their forces.
He said such pressure would also fail to achieve its intended objectives, adding that Afghanistan’s development and government activities would continue despite the challenges.
Muttaqi also stressed that Afghan territory would not be used against any country, saying the Islamic Emirate would not allow Afghanistan to be used as a base for aggression against other states.
The foreign minister further emphasized the continuation of engagement with the international community, saying Afghanistan wants relations and interaction with all countries and expects other nations to engage with Kabul.
Muttaqi said achieving self-reliance in the political, economic, and other sectors is one of the most effective ways to secure Afghanistan’s genuine independence.
