KABUL: Minister of Industry and Commerce, Nooruddin Azizi, says the signing of an agreement to establish and operate a joint-stock company is an important step toward achieving self-sufficiency in petroleum products.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Azizi said petroleum products are an important component of Afghanistan’s economy and that the government has been working for some time to reduce the country’s dependence on imports in this sector.
He said efforts are also underway to attract specialized foreign companies to invest and operate professionally in Afghanistan’s petroleum industry.
Azizi added that the government, in cooperation with the private sector, is working to implement major infrastructure projects.
He emphasized the importance of using Afghan expertise, domestic ideas and locally produced goods to support the country’s reconstruction and development.
According to Azizi, strengthening domestic production and attracting specialized investment in the petroleum sector could help Afghanistan move toward economic self-sufficiency and reduce its dependence on imports.
