KABUL: The Iranian Embassy in Afghanistan says the volume of goods transported between Iran and Afghanistan by rail has increased significantly.
According to the embassy, annual rail shipments between the two countries previously stood at less than 15,000 tonnes, but have now risen to around 130,000 tonnes per month.
Iran’s railway company estimates that if the current trend continues, the annual volume of rail freight between the two countries could reach approximately 1.5 million tonnes.
The increase reflects expanding trade and transit cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan through the railway network and could play an important role in facilitating exports, imports, and the movement of essential goods between the two countries.
