Putin and Trump discuss Ukraine war by phone

KABUL: Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump held a one-hour phone call to discuss the war in Ukraine and ways to end the conflict.

According to Reuters, the two leaders exchanged views on the latest developments in the war and diplomatic efforts to find a peaceful solution.

Yuri Ushakov, a foreign policy adviser to the Kremlin, described the conversation as “constructive and very candid.”

Ushakov said Putin briefed Trump on his assessment of the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine and discussed steps the United States could take to help bring the conflict to an end quickly.

The two leaders also stressed the importance of continuing prisoner exchanges and agreed to maintain telephone contact when necessary.

Trump, for his part, emphasized the need to end the war as soon as possible, saying an end to the conflict could pave the way for a full restoration of US-Russia relations, particularly in the economic and trade sectors.
