KABUL: UN Secretary-General António Guterres has said the world’s economic and political balance of power has changed and called for international institutions to be reformed to reflect current realities.
Speaking at the BRICS summit, Guterres called for reforms to the UN Security Council and international financial institutions, stressing that developing countries should have a greater role in global decision-making.
He identified financing, access to technology, climate justice and peacebuilding as key priorities for global development. Guterres also warned that control over artificial intelligence and its economic benefits remains concentrated in the hands of a limited number of countries and companies.
BRICS is a grouping of emerging and developing economies that has called for a more balanced global economic and political order.
